WANTED: More Years In Our Life And More Life In Our Years
Welcome back to Proverbs Pathways - finding your way God's way. Throughout the 31 chapters of Proverbs King Solomon makes it crystal clear that there is no substitute for godly wisdom. Proverbs 9 is no exception - the 18 verses are dripping with wise words to wanna' be wise people. Here's an example: "For through me your days will be many and years will be added to your life. If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer."
What are some of the rewards of living out the wisdom of God in daily life?
Here's one that has 7 dimensions, described by Solomon as living in a house (your life) with seven pillars (signifying stability, strength and longevity).
-
You'll walk the "way of understanding" and defeat gullibility and naivete.
-
You'll know how to choose people who you can truly connect with in a good way.
-
You'll know when to take wise instruction or to reject foolish ideas.
-
You'll learn to respectfully "fear" the Lord without being afraid of Him.
-
You'll know better than to mimic a mocker but you'll imitate the spiritually smart.
-
You will not answer when that enticing woman named "Folly" calls you to her.
-
You won't crave stolen sweets to be eaten in secret - and you'll know why!
If the above sounds a bit mysterious and incomplete - and you're eager to become wiser God's way - then read the complete version in Proverbs 9. Carefully note that just about mid-point these words jump out: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."
Yours to size it all up and to wise up in Christ,
Chuck Brannon, Pastor
